In
2006 some computers were donated by Florencis Hamer, Heritage AII Insurance and De Ruiters via Ruth Vaughan.
Shelan, a shelter committee member, trained the teachers who now teach
the children. We are currently upgrading the computer dept, thanks to Ken McCallum (Better life cycle), Symotech Technologies & Styles Computers with a view to educate and have internet access. |

Sports
equipment on site, including tennis tables made by our own carpentry
department, are in constant use.The boys love to run and have competed
in the Naivasha half marathon – they trained hard, thoroughly enjoyed
the experience and learnt a lot about competition and sportsmanship.
Football is the favourite sport and every November we hold a football
tournament with up to ten teams from schools and farms competing. Our
first tournament was sponsored by Sogea Satom. Now a 2 day event with Maridadi Flowers. Volley ball brings lots
of laughs and competiton. |
 |
The
boys participate in local fund-raising functions, representing the
shelter and selling their crafts. The key annual events are the
Naivasha Horticultural Fair, EAWL
Naivasha Crafty Fair, Nairobi Christmas Fair. The boys are encouraged to give back for
what they have received. One Christmas, they invited fifteen boys from
another shelter to come and stay for five days; the experience was a
great success – the Shangila boys enjoyed the freedom to play football
in a large open space and they taught our boys acrobats and drama. On
another occasion the boys were invited to sing for the London Choral
Adventist and gave a very touching performance. The Shelter often performs at important functions recently the wedding of Meriam & Patrick |

| School curriculum |
|
 |
Our
classes are based on the Kenya national curriculum. Twelve boys are studying at a local state school, where they are
achieving grades well above the class average. Five boys are now in Secondary School. We have good teachers and are able to give a one on one education especially to those that have been on the streets for a while. We are now teaching Secondary School with good results. |

| Security |
|
 |
Security
became a disturbing issue in 2005 when thieves struck and stole our
solar panels. Since then there were further spate of attacks, which
have terrorised staff and children. Thanks to a donation by Study Group
in the UK, we took on a security company for a year to protect the
shelter. We now need sponsors to assist in security which costs 19,000/- a month. |
